Paddy Pimblett thinks Bobby Green’s jaw is completely cracked.
Pimbret (21-3) and Green (32-15-1 draw, 1 no-hitter) are expected to go head-to-head at UFC 304 on July 27 at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England. Pimbret expects Green to use his stellar takedown defense to avoid grappling and force the fight to remain primarily stand-up.
However, the Next Gen UK star questions how long Green’s chin will hold up following his knockout loss to Jaylin Turner in December 2023. Green returned to action with a unanimous decision win over Jim Miller last month, but Pimblett points out that even the 40-year-old Miller hurt “The King” in that bout. Given Green’s recent durability, “The Buddy” is not hurting his chances of scoring a knockout.
“He’s a very good striker and he’s got a strong punch, but his chin got stuck against Jaylin Turner,” the Liverpool native told Mac Life. “Jim Miller’s not a knockout artist and he wobbled him once or twice in our UFC 300 fight, and I think it was Jaylin Turner slamming Bobby Green’s skull into the canvas. So, like I said, very good striking, good takedown defense, and all he’s going to do is use his takedown defense and keep attacking in the stand-up because he thinks he’s going to beat me, but like I said, his chin got stuck. So let’s go at it with me and see what happens…yeah, I can knock him out and I can submit him.”
Pimblett is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 296, but appeared to lose steam in the final round. He claims his desperation to take the first-round defeat sapped his energy. Still, it’s understandable that Green will take it from there and try to take the fight to the depths. “I think it’s a good fight,” the 29-year-old said.
“My cardio was great before the fight, but I went a little crazy trying to knock him out in one round,” the jovial Brit said. “I think Bobby Green would do it too… he might try to knock me out in one round, but I can see him thinking, ‘Well, I was exhausted after the Tony fight, I’ll take it to the third round’. Bobby doesn’t have knockout power, so he just smacks you down and wins by TKO or decision. The only person I’ve knocked out was Grant Johnson.” [Dawson]. ”
