Netflix’s first live boxing event has a new date.
Legendary heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson (50-6, 2 no-kicks, 44 KOs) was expected to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) in a modified rules professional boxing bout on July 20. The two were scheduled to star in the main event at the event at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Health issues with an ulcer forced Tyson to take a break from training to recover, resulting in the postponement of the show. According to a social media post on Friday from Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, the new date for the fight card will be Nov. 15.
The fights will take place in the same building as before and will be streamed live on Netflix. Additionally, the co-main event, in which Katie Taylor will defend her lightweight title against Amanda Serrano, will remain postponed to this date and time. It has not yet been announced whether the remaining fights will be rescheduled to this new date.
Tyson retired from professional boxing after back-to-back stoppage losses to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride in 2004 and 2005, respectively. The soon-to-be 58-year-old’s only official return to the ring since then was an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, which ended in a draw. During his active career, Tyson reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion, holding the WBA, WBC and IBF belts and becoming the first man to hold those belts.
This will be Paul’s first time fighting at over 200 pounds. He has never weighed more than 198.5 pounds, the weight he weighed when he faced Andre August last December. Paul began his rise in the sport by defeating influencer Ali “Eson” Gibb, before defeating former basketball player Nate Robinson. “The Problem Child” has since defeated Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley twice, Anderson Silva, and fellow unbeaten boxer Tommy Fury. Paul lost a split decision to the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, but bounced back with wins over Nate Diaz, August, and Ryan Borland.
