Evgeny Antonov saw his opportunity and immediately unleashed hell.
The unbeaten Russian prospect earned a spectacular victory in his ONE Championship debut, stopping Islam Khukkaev with a flurry of elbow strikes in the first round of the ONE Friday Fights 66 catchweight showcase at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday. Khukkaev (4-2, 0-1 ONE) was eliminated at 4 minutes, 50 seconds into the first round.
Antonov (4-0, 1-0 ONE) remained unfazed by the initial pressure. Kukaev landed multiple takedowns and ground-and-pound, but couldn’t send his opponent to the canvas. Antonov eventually got to his feet, racking up points and damage with some impressive combinations and a takedown shot of his own. He then worked his way up to half guard and continued his onslaught until an unanswered elbow finish finished the job.
The 25-year-old Antonov has defeated all four of his opponents, three of them in the first round.
Meanwhile, in a strawweight bout, Trepchi Dongak took down Hiroto Masuda (0-1, ONE Championship, 0-1) with a series of knee strikes and follow-up strikes, after Masuda (0-1, ONE Championship, 0-1) succumbed to the strikes 4 minutes, 39 seconds into the first round.
Donkaku (2-1, 2-1 ONE) responded to the Japanese rookie with a flurry of low kicks and a few kicks of his own after a takedown attempt, demonstrating his dominance on the stand. Late in the first round, Donkaku backed Masuda into the corner with two knees to the head, pushed him back with a right-left hook combination and finished off with a flurry of punches on the ground.
