The main event of UFC on ESPN 57 will feature Jared Cannonier facing fellow middleweight Nassoordin Imavov. Both fighters in the main event weighed in at exactly 185 pounds. The only fighter on the card who was over the weight limit was strawweight Eduardo Moura (116.5), who was fined 20 percent of her prize money for being 0.5 pounds over the strawweight limit.
Cannonier (17-6) is on a two-fight win streak since losing to Israel Adesanya. Wins over Sean Strickland and Marvin Vetri have kept “The Killer Gorilla” a top contender despite being 40 years old. He’s coming off a sixth UFC main event victory and is on his way to realizing his title dream.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Imavov (13-4, 1 NC) is looking for the biggest win of his career. A three-fight winning streak was snapped last year when he lost by decision to Strickland. Since then, the Frenchman has fought to a no-contest against Chris Curtis and won by majority decision over Roman Dolidze.
Prelims for UFC on ESPN 57 begin at 5pm ET/2pm PT on Saturday, followed by the main card at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
