Alex Pereira is a bit perplexed by Jamahal Hill’s delayed response to their UFC 300 bout.
Pereira dominated Hill in the opening round of their light heavyweight title defense in the main event of UFC 300 in April, with “Poitan” pointing at the fallen Hill and delivering his famous “Cubby Lame” response.
About two months after UFC 300, Hill expressed his displeasure with Pereira’s post-fight celebration, which “Sweet Dreams” thought was disrespectful. Hill said he had nothing but respect for Pereira’s teammate, Glover Teixeira, after he dethroned Pereira at UFC 283 in January 2023.
Pereira, unconcerned about the accidental low blow, knocked Hill out shortly after referee Herb Dean stepped in. Hill further claimed that this unusual sequence of moves helped Pereira set up the knockout punch. Hill promised revenge in a post on his Instagram account.
“I haven’t really talked about this before but I went to Brazil and dog-walked you guys in the most one-sided defeat in championship history and showed nothing but respect and adoration afterwards! I have never celebrated after beating an opponent and once accused the fans of disrespecting Johnny Walker after putting him to sleep!! But I showed fighting spirit and was excited to come back from a potentially career-ending injury so you guys think this is funny and cool!! [Alex
Pereira] You prepared a punch that you couldn’t throw without some really weird and confused moments and you did something weak but it’s okay because you will fight me again and I won’t take my eyes off you until you’re as hard as Izzy left you in Miami!!!”
Pereira joked that Hill was criticizing him nearly two months after their fight, when “Sweet Dreams” may have just woken up from a knockout. Pereira responded to Hill’s Instagram post with, “You reap what you sow, Chama.” Pereira expanded on the comments, explaining that Hill had zero respect for him ahead of the fight.
“To be honest with you, I just don’t understand why he’s doing this so late,” Pereira told Main Event TV. “It’s been almost two months now. Normally he would do it right away, but maybe he just woke up from the knockout… It’s like if you sow the seed, you reap the harvest. During the Glover fight, he had respect. Glover got respect at the end. In our fight, he was a little disrespectful, so he got the same result he put on.”
