Ramazan Kuramagomedov wants everyone competing in mixed martial arts to have the opportunity to experience what he experienced on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Dagestan native defeated Jason Jackson by unanimous decision in the main event of the Bellator Champions Series in Dublin, winning the promotion’s welterweight title in the process. Kramagomedov won the first three rounds on the scorecards before staving off a late onslaught from Jackson to end his opponent’s eight-fight winning streak. Kramagomedov is now 13-0 as a professional.
“This is very emotional for me, I can’t explain it. [fighter] “I want anyone who comes to this sport to feel this moment the way I feel today,” Khurram Gomedov said in a backstage interview with Bellator.
“Every night I went to bed thinking about this belt, and every morning I woke up thinking about this belt,” he added. “I was preparing for a tough fight, five rounds. I fought five rounds today, [won]”I’m the world champion.”
Kuramagomedov divides his training time between Dagestan and American Top Team, and he credits some talented training partners in Coconut Creek, Florida, for helping him hone his skills during camp.
“Coming to American Top Team, my favorite sparring partner is middleweight champion Johnny Eblen,” Kuramagomedov said, “He always puts me through very tough rounds, and I learn a lot from him.”
“American Top Team has Magomed Magomedkerimov, the PFL welterweight champion. He gives me a lot of rounds. I’m learning from him. American Top Team has a lot of good welterweights and middleweights.”
Kuramagomedov appears to have ruled out competing in the upcoming Professional Fighters League season, instead opting to put the belt on the line at the PFL vs Bellator Champions event.
“I get to fight the PFL champion and whoever wins gets $1 million,” he said.
