Ian Garry remains uninterested in his upcoming bout with former Bellator MMA star Michael Page.
Garry and Page will face off in a welterweight bout at UFC 303, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 29. Garry was initially reluctant to accept the bout, but Page fought for the booking.
Although the match has been confirmed, with less than a week to go, Gary still doesn’t seem interested in the fight.
Undefeated in seven fights at UFC, Garry has already been tested against consistently highly ranked veterans such as Neil Magny and Geoff Neal. Going forward, Garry is hoping for fights that will help him get closer to his ultimate goal of winning a gold medal at UFC. However, in Garry’s opinion, fighting a lower-ranked Paige would not get him anywhere near that goal. Garry believes a higher-ranked opponent like Colby Covington would be better. Garry recently appeared on “The MMA Hour” to explain his thoughts:
“I’m not interested yet,” he said. “I already said I’m not interested. Here’s how I look at it: I’m undefeated, I’ve beaten everyone that’s put in front of me the best way I believed I could, so I’m going to go out on the court and get my hand raised in any way, shape or form. That’s my job. And when that happens, I’ll fight, because my goal is to be world champion.
“I look at the guys above me. I’ve got six or seven guys in front of me, and Gilbert [Burns]There is a Shafkaat [Rakhmonov]Jack Della Maddalena, Colby [Covington]there [Kamaru]
Usman Belal [Muhammad] Leon [Edwards]All I’ve done in my career is win. I deserve to fight those guys. I have to fight those guys, because that’s what I expect. I’m going to be one of the world champions. I’m going to be one of the biggest stars in the history of the sport. I’m not interested in fighting anyone less than me. I’ve already done that. [No.] “Why would I want to fight a guy ranked 15th, 10th, 8th in the world? I’m not interested in fighting Michael yet. I’m not interested in fighting him.”
