Manel Kape and Mohamed Mokaev were allegedly involved in a physical altercation at the UFC Performance Institute.
Kape and Mokaev are scheduled to engage in a heated battle at UFC 304, which takes place at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, England on July 17. According to UFC featherweight Jean Silva, Kape recently assaulted Mokaev at UFC PI in Las Vegas. The exact date of the incident is unclear.
According to Silva, he was scheduled to spar with Cape that day, but when he arrived he saw “Star Boy” attacking Mokaev outside the PI entrance doors. Silva claims Cape headbutted and elbowed Mokaev. Silva also stresses that none of the Russians there came to the aid of Mokaev, a Dagestan-born British national.
“Manel Kape punched Mokaev outside the gym a while back,” Silva said on Ag.Fight’s livestream (translated by Championship Rounds). “He elbowed Mokaev in the head on the street. Has this been on the internet yet? I’m telling them to f*ck it. He caught Mokaev at the entrance here.” [UFC] A private investigator. He headbutted and elbowed Mokaev. On the street. He split Mokaev’s head open a week before the fight. He [Kape] “He was a psychopath. I was going to spar with him that day. When I arrived he butted his head. He was at the PI entrance. The Russians here didn’t even help. They just watched as Mokaev got hit. And Mokaev said, ‘I’m going to get you.'”
According to Silva, the feud started when Mokaev threatened to slap Kape, and Silva claims that the unbeaten flyweight boxer backed off and tried to apologize when Kape confronted him, but Kape wasn’t having any of it.
“Mokaev said he was going to slap me. [Kape] “On the face,” Silva said, “and [Kape] I met Mokaev, who wanted to apologize.
[Kape] “I said, ‘No apology accepted, you have to do it now,’ and Mokaev took a step back. I got out, opened the second door, and he came and headbutted Mokaev and elbowed him. Mokaev fell to the ground. Then the Russian just looked on.”
Kape also appeared briefly on Silva’s stream, telling Mokaev: “This is the second time I’ve hit you. [Mokaev]”…But stay calm.”
As of now, there have been no other reports of the incident that corroborate Silva’s account, and it remains to be seen whether the UFC 304 bout between Kape and Mokaev will be affected by the brawl.
Mokaev has won four of his last six fights at UFC, most recently defeating veteran challenger Alex Perez by unanimous decision in March, while Kape is on a four-fight winning streak, having just won by unanimous decision over a rookie. Felipe dos Santos will compete at UFC 293 in September 2023. Kape was scheduled to face Matheus Nicolau in his UFC debut in January this year, but the bout was called off after the Angolan was 3.5 pounds underweight.
