Avazbek Khormirzaev could be a contender for the ONE Championship promotion in the near future.
The 23-year-old Sambo fighter defeated previously unbeaten Karaul Changyi via armbar in the first round of the ONE Friday Fights 69 catchweight showcase at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday. Kormirzaev (8-1 MMA, 4-0 ONE) ended the 125.6-pound bout 3 minutes, 39 seconds into the first round.
Chansey (6-1 MMA, 2-1 ONE) took control with a takedown about 90 seconds into the first round, then transitioned to his back and threatened the neck only to be reversed. Chansey climbed to the top, escaped a guillotine choke attempt and briefly moved into side control before settling into full guard. Khormirzaev countered the Russian’s attacks with technique, swinging his hips and applying a belly-down armbar for the quick tap-out.
Khormirzaev is currently on a six-fight winning streak.
Meanwhile, BMF Space representative Katsuaki Aoyagi shone in his promotional debut, dominating Jun Hye Jeong in one game and dominating with punches in the first round of their featherweight duel. Aoyagi (5-3, 1-0 ONE) ended the bout 4 minutes, 47 seconds into the first round.
The results were immediate. Aoyagi dropped his Korean opponent twice with right hands in the first two minutes, exposing glaring holes in his stand-up defense. Things only got worse from there for John, who was willing to stand up and fight. Aoki lured John into range and landed a devastating counter left hook late in the first round. The impact sent John spinning around and knocking him to the ground, leaving him vulnerable to follow-up attacks. Aoyagi positioned himself on top of John and attacked with rapid-fire hammer fists, bringing the bout to a close.
The 26-year-old Aoyagi achieved three consecutive wins.
In other bouts, Nabil Anane defeated Kulabdam Sor Jaw Piek Uthai with a devastating knee 2:54 into the second round in the bantamweight Muay Thai main event, earning him a $100,000 contract with ONE Championship. Nontachai Jitmuangnon defeated Alessio Malatesta by unanimous decision in the 150-pound catchweight Muay Thai co-main event. Buakheow Por Pao-ing defeated Laksiam Sor Boonmeirit by unanimous decision in a three-round 140-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout. Maisangkum Sor Incharoenkarunchan defeated Pessansuk Chotbangsaen with a punch to the body 1:53 into the first round of their 120-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout.Sunday Boomdekseang defeated Chusap Sor Saraceep with a punch 61 seconds into the second round in a 118-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout. Mungkorn Boomdekseang won a unanimous decision over Kaenglek Sor Chokmeechai in a three-round 120-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout. Sor Ling Oo earned a $100,000 contract from ONE Championship by defeating Pongsiri PK Saenchai with a devastating uppercut 29 seconds into the second round in a 149.2-pound catchweight Muay Thai match. Elbrus Osmanov won a unanimous decision over Miao Aoki in a three-round bantamweight kickboxing bout. In a 122-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout, Ikka Ota overwhelmed BM Fairtex with punches at the start of the second round, while in a three-round atomweight Muay Thai bout, Celeste Hansen defeated Masami Machida by unanimous decision.
