Bantamweights Montel Jackson and Damon Blackshear appeared on the preliminary card for UFC Denver on Saturday, July 13 at Ball Arena.
Jackson began the night on a four-fight win streak that included wins over Rani Yahya and Julio Arce, while Blackshear had won two straight fights before his last loss to Mario Bautista.
Montel Jackson lived up to his nickname “Quick” in a performance that saw Blackshear start off with some quick leg kicks.
Jackson landed a lightning-fast jab to the chest and a cross that knocked his opponent to the canvas and instantly rendered him unconscious. Jackson landed a few strikes on the ground, but the fight was already over. The cross connected with Blackshear as he stepped in, resulting in a highlight-reel KO that had everyone in the arena on edge.
In his post-fight interview, Jackson calmly took to the microphone to call out the names of the opponents in his weight class who had evaded him. When Paul Felder asked Montel who he wanted to face next, as if imploring the bantamweight division to nominate a top 15 fighter, Jackson calmly replied, “Anyone. Sign the contract.”
Official result: Montel Jackson defeats Damon Blackshear by KO, Round 1, 0:18
