Belal Muhammad believes Leon Edwards and his camp are nervous about their upcoming UFC 304 showdown.
Muhammad will challenge Edwards for the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 304 on Saturday in Manchester, England. Muhammad recently ran into Edwards and company in an elevator. “Remember the Name” claims Edwards’ coach, Dave Lavelle, was the only one he was badmouthing and he wants him to be at the press conference.
“I just saw him in the elevator and he looked scared,” Muhammad told MMAjunkie.com. “He, his brother, his coach, they all looked like cowards. His coach was trying to swear a little bit, so I hope his coach is at the press conference because I know Leon won’t be able to talk.”
UFC 304: Edwards vs. Muhammad Airs Saturday at 10pm ET on ESPN+. Order now! According to Muhammad, he was with another teammate when Edwards entered the elevator with a crew of six or seven people. Muhammad chose to stay, but believes he would not have done so had the positions been reversed. Muhammad exchanged some harsh words with Lavelle and exchanged looks with Fabian Edwards. In summary, Edwards finds the entire Edwards group “weird.”
“We were in the same elevator, and they were a group of six or seven, so they thought they were tougher or something,” Muhammad said, “but me and my buddy Max could handle anything…I was already in, and he wasn’t sure he was going to stay in the elevator if my group got in. He got out, and I got in. I guess they were trying to be cooler and tougher, but I was scared…Leon didn’t say a word. Coach was talking, and he had this weird, goofy accent and sounded like he was autistic or sluggish, so I don’t know what he was saying, but he didn’t sound smart at all.
“We had a lot of back and forth with his coach and even with him, but his brother gave me some weird looks. They just seem like a weird bunch of people. If you saw them walking down the street you’d think, ‘Dude, those guys have some issues.'”
