While Bobby Green is unhappy with his rejection of custom shorts, his UFC 304 opponent Paddy Pimblett is unhappy with his own rejection.
Green (32-15) will face Pimblett (21-3) this weekend at UFC 304 in his hometown of Manchester, England. The two have had a long-running feud that Pimblett claims began with Green secretly recording him while attending UFC San Diego in August 2022.
Greene admits he started the feud, but he had his reasons. “The King” believes his and Pimblett’s careers were contrasting, that he had to work hard to earn his keep, while “The Buddy” had things handed to him on a silver platter. Greene says Pimblett is spoiled and unaware of how privileged he is. Greene claims he took notice when Pimblett got carried away with his initial success and started making cocky remarks.
“I’ve earned my spot. I’ve been here a long time. I think I’ve been fighting here for 12 years now… I call him a spoiled brat,” Green said at UFC 304 media day. “Some kids don’t know that the whole house is theirs. Everything is built around them and I think that has to do with where I come from because I never had a mommy and a daddy. I saw those kids in school acting like that and I’m like, ‘They don’t even know how to treat their mommy and daddy.’ They’re spoiled and he acts the same way. He doesn’t realize that UFC worked with him and gave him every opportunity. They raise you. I had to earn it. They had to put me through the fire. I was forged by fire. You, they raised you. There’s a difference between the two of us.”
UFC 304: Edwards vs. Muhammad airs Saturday at 10pm ET on ESPN+. Order now! “It’s a fight between a spoiled brat and a real cool kid. He doesn’t know he’s opening the door. He walks through. He just shuts up and smiles and that’s all. But somewhere along the line he starts to get cocky. I feel like once he starts winning, he gets drunk on it.”
Pimblett, one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster, will wear custom orange shorts in his bout at UFC 304. However, Green’s request for custom shorts for his 26th UFC fight, after more than a decade with the company, was denied. Green noted that he has stood up for the company on short notice many times before, including taking a two-week break to fight Islam Makhachev in 2022. “The King” has vowed to further punish Pimblett for what he sees as discrimination by UFC.
“So I’m beating him up a little bit more. I’m talking about a spoiled brat. I’ve worked so hard for this company, I’ve taken so many surprise fights, I’ve broken my hand, I’ve done this and that. I’ve beaten the company up a thousand times. I fought a guy and then I had to fight Islam to get back.” [Makhachev] Ten days later. I did everything in my power to get this damn company a pair of shorts. And this guy just comes in and gets them. Amazing, I get it. That’s what I’m saying. This spoiled motherfucker. All he had to do was say, ‘I want some shorts.’ The company gave him some shorts. And I’m gonna beat the shit out of him for that.”
