UFC 304: Edwards vs. Muhammad airs Saturday at 10pm ET on ESPN+. Order yours now! Ultimate Fighting Championship is looking to open up a few more wallets for Saturday’s most exciting outcome.
Ahead of UFC 300 in April, MMA Junkie posed the question at the pre-fight press conference about whether UFC would offer the winner a $300,000 bonus check. The organization agreed on the spot, and victorious headliner Max Holloway took home an additional $600,000 at the end of the night after knocking out Justin Gaethje. Since then, these kinds of requests have been made repeatedly at press conferences for pay-per-view events, and the promotion has responded to some extent, offering an additional “Performance of the Night” check at UFC 303.
At the pre-fight press conference for UFC 304, the media didn’t have to ask any questions. Instead, it was main card participant Bobby Green who brought it up.
“Uncle Dana, let’s spice things up a bit,” Green said, as his opponent Paddy Pimblett cheered him on. “100G prize money. [bonuses]”Can I get $100? Can I get $100? Let’s make it a little more exciting.”
UFC president Dana White looked around for a moment as fans roared in support of the motion, then noticed welterweight champion Leon Edwards’ enthusiasm and replied in favor.
“Leon said ‘yes,'” White responded, confirming that the bonus winner will receive $100,000 as the “Fight of the Night,” or POTN, award.
All six fighters on stage were beaming with satisfaction at the prospect of taking home some extra cash for a dramatic win or an exciting defeat, including title challenger Belal Muhammad, who was heard to shout, “Let’s go!” [I’m] I’m going to Greece!
UFC 304 will take place on July 27 at the newly completed Co-op Live in Manchester, England. The card will be headlined by a welterweight championship rematch between Edwards and Muhammad, with the co-main attraction being the interim heavyweight title fight between Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes. Green vs. Pimblett is included in the “Battles of the Night” slot, and the main card will open with a featherweight bout between Arnold Allen and Giga Chikadze and a 185-pound clash between Christian Leroy Duncan and Gregory Rodriguez.
