For the third consecutive year, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will bring its pay-per-view party to Salt Lake City.
In 2016, the organization made its first foray into the city once known as the “Crossroads of the West” with a Fight Night card featuring Yair Rodriguez and Alex Caceres. Six years later, the league held UFC 278 in the same building, then named Vivint Arena. The organization will return with UFC 291 in 2023, with UFC 307 being the next event in a series of consecutive annual cards. The show will take place on Oct. 5 at the Delta Center, home of the National Basketball Association’s Utah Jazz, the venue of which was officially announced by the organization on Thursday. No headliner has been selected at this time.
The Oct. 5 showcase is expected to feature several high-profile bouts. A bantamweight championship bout between Raquel Pennington and Julianna Peña is expected that night, but the bout has yet to be confirmed. UFC 307 is scheduled to feature at least two de facto title-deciding bouts, one at women’s bantamweight and one at 145 pounds. Kayla Harrison will face Ketlen Vieira, and Movsar Evloev will look to improve his unbeaten record to 19-0 with a win over former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.
The lineup currently has five bouts scheduled, but the order of the bouts is still in flux as the slate is nearly halfway through. The likely main card bouts will see Jose Aldo return under a new contract to face Mario Bautista at 135 pounds. Additionally, Chris Curtis will face Kevin Holland at middleweight. Strawweights Carla Esparza and Tecia Pennington will clash in a rematch of their exhibition bout on The Ultimate Fighter Season 20 in 2014, and 115-pounders Marina Rodriguez and Iasmin Lucindo will also compete on the card. Finally, middleweight power strikers Cesar Almeida and Igor Potieria will meet in what most expect to be a preliminary bout.
