Kong Wang was a late addition to the list of UFC on ESPN 62 bonus recipients.
Wang set a high standard in her first bout of the night against Victoria Leonardo on Saturday at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, arriving at the faceoff dressed as “The Joker” and shutting down Leonardo’s right hand with a powerful right punch in just 62 seconds.
Wang was naturally hoping to earn a $50,000 bonus for his highlight-reel finish, which also marked the fastest finish in UFC flyweight debut history. However, the unbeaten Chinese star was surprised to see his name missing from the list of bonus recipients, which originally included “Performance of the Night” bonuses for Gerald Meeschert and Michael Morales, and “Fight of the Night” bonuses for Caio Borrallo and Jared Cannonier. Wang expressed his disappointment on social media, promising an even more spectacular finish in his next performance, garnering the attention of Dana White.
In a surprising development, White blamed his absence from Las Vegas for the delay and promised Wang a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.
“Wake up and know there is no POTN,” Wang wrote on Instagram. “In the next game [a] A more stunning finish [UFC]”Don’t ever play with the Joker again!”
White responded: “I was out of town watching the game. [at
Mystique Boston] I saw it on TV. It was amazing. I’ll add one more.
[‘Performance of the Night’] bonus [you]congratulations [you] Earn 50K.
A former martial arts world champion, Asian Games medallist and amateur boxing world championship medallist, Wang has a long list of accomplishments that includes a kickboxing victory over former UFC champion Valentina Shevchenko in 2015. Wang is looking forward to returning to MMA with “Bullet” and believes she can repeat that victory. The 32-year-old also said: Shown She is already scheduled to compete for the second time at UFC’s return to her home country of China on November 23 in Macau.
