Raul Rosas Jr. recently detailed his UFC 306 bonus demands, which have faced widespread criticism.
Rosas faced veteran Kyren Aoli in the first preliminaries of UFC 306 at the Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14. The 19-year-old Rosas won by unanimous decision in what was viewed as a tepid bout against Aoli.
However, fans were surprised to see Rosas ask for a performance bonus during his post-fight Octagon interview. “El Nino Problema” then explained his odd request for a bonus at UFC 306. First, Rosas admitted that he had habitually asked for the bonus on the spot, having earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses for all three of his previous UFC wins.
While Rosas acknowledged he didn’t deserve a bonus for his win over “The Mongol Killer,” the Mexican prospect had good reasons to receive one: he deserved it for captivating the fans early on in the card.
“I just did it in the heat of the moment,” Rosas recently told MMAFighting.com. “I’m used to getting the finish and then demanding it, so it just came out that way. Anyway, my argument that I deserved to win — don’t get me wrong, it was a unanimous decision, so obviously I should have won, so I’m happy that I didn’t lose. But if I had won, my argument would be that people came out for me. The event was packed for me. I was in the prelims, so I’m saying I was there early. I don’t mean to brag, but a lot of people turned on the TV to watch my fights. By them picking me to be the first bout in the prelims, I brought a lot of people to the TV right away, and that’s why I won.” [$50,000]
But of course I agreed, I didn’t try hard enough to get them
[$50,000].”
Rosas is currently 4-1 in UFC, with three finishes and a unanimous decision loss to Christian Rodriguez.
