The main event is an interesting battle between Renato Carneiro and Benoit St. Denis. Both lightweight contenders played key roles, as did everyone on the card except Aylin Perez. The bantamweight hopeful dropped half a pound in weight for her fight against Darya Zheleznyakova. As a result, she will be fined 20 percent of her purse.
Carneiro (19-5-1) is on a roll. “Money Moicano” has won his last three fights inside the Octagon, including important wins over Jalin Turner and Drew Dober. The 35-year-old could be making his final shot at the top and needs a win to keep his title hopes alive. The Brazilian’s official weight was 156 pounds.
Saint-Denis (13-2, 1 NC State) suffered a stunning knockout loss to Dustin Poirier. The setback ended the French fighter’s winning streak at five. “God of War” is going to show that he still has a lot of weight left in him, and at only 28 years old, the best is yet to come. Saint-Denis officially stepped on the scale at 156 pounds.
UFC Fight Night 243 will be broadcast live in its entirety on ESPN+. Preliminaries begin at noon ET/9am PT, with the main card kicking off at 3pm ET/noon PT.
