“If things go well and I keep moving up, especially if it’s my debut and I’ve worked so hard just to get back here, he’s still ahead of me. So I don’t want to surpass Cory Sandhagen.

Mario Bautista hopes to one day avenge his defeat against Cory Sandhagen.
Bautista suffered a first-round submission loss to Sandhagen in his UFC debut in 2019. However, Bautista has since amassed an 8-1 promotion record, including a current six-fight winning streak.
Bautista will face perhaps his toughest test since his fight against Jose Aldo’s Sandhagen on the main card of UFC 307 on Saturday at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. If he can overtake Aldo and maintain his upward momentum, Bautista would like to turn things around with “The Sandman” before aiming for a fighter at the top of the rankings.

“If things go well and keep moving up, I don’t want to look back at Cory Sandhagen, especially since that was my debut, to get back here,” Bautista told Home of Fight. That’s why I’ve worked so hard to get to this point.” , and he’s still in front of me… so if all goes well, I don’t think it’s right to pass him or skip ahead of him if I ever get the chance. I want to fight Corey again. ”
Bautista’s six-fight winning streak (including three finishes) culminated with a unanimous decision victory over Ricky Simon in his last fight in January of this year. Meanwhile, Aldo has just bounced back from a loss to reigning champion Merab Dvalishvili with a unanimous decision win over Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301 in May.
Meanwhile, Sandhagen is coming off a three-game win streak with a unanimous decision loss to Umar Nurmagomedov.
