The alleged victim and the emergency room doctor who treated her testified against Conor McGregor at the start of a civil lawsuit related to an alleged sexual assault committed by the former UFC champion in 2018.
Mr McGregor and the alleged victim Nikita nee Ramhain (Hand) appeared at the High Court in Dublin on Tuesday. The civil suit was filed in 2021 by Hand, who claims McGregor and James Lawrence raped her in a hotel room in December 2018. McGregor and Lawrence have not been criminally charged, but both deny the charges. The beginning of the trial was reported by several media outlets, including the Irish Times and the Irish Mirror.
According to Hand’s testimony, she knew McGregor through a family member of the fighter. Ms Hand said she attended a work Christmas party where she drank alcohol and used cocaine before meeting Ms McGregor. She then contacted McGregor via Instagram, and McGregor, along with a security guard, came to pick up the alleged victim and his friend. McGregor stopped when he went to pick up Lawrence and returned with what Hand thought was cocaine, which he handed to the victim. Ms Hand said she had no recollection of McGregor or Lawrence using cocaine.
Hand and his friend had intended to go to another party, but were instead taken to the Beacon Hotel, where McGregor had a penthouse suite with an adjoining room. During that time, Ms Hand claimed security closed the door between the two rooms, leaving her alone with McGregor. She said the UFC star forced himself on her even though she tried to decline his advances.
“I said I was uncomfortable. I know Dee and I know her family. I was going to tell him that I didn’t want anything. I didn’t want to have sex. I didn’t want to and I wasn’t there to do something like that. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. Then he pinned me to the bed,” Hand said during her testimony. told.
“I kept telling you to relax, baby. He pinned me to the bed. I remember putting my arms across my chest. He just kept pushing his weight down on top of me. I remember crossing my arms like this to keep him as far away from me as possible.”
Hand recalled McGregor saying during the alleged assault, “That’s how I felt in the Octagon. I had to knock myself out three times. That’s how I felt.”
McGregor then allegedly left the hotel with Hand’s friend, leaving the victim in the hotel room with Lawrence. Hand’s lawyer said she went into “delayed shock” and remained in the room with Lawrence for several hours. She did not remember much about the incident, but later learned that Lawrence had sex twice before returning home.
When Hand arrived at the house, she was in “absolutely terrible condition” and was taken by ambulance to hospital. Daniel Kane, an emergency room gynecologist who treated Hand for the alleged sexual assault, testified that his examination was “consistent with the doctor’s description of the incident.” [Hand]” While treating Hand, Mr. Cain noticed “multiple body injuries,” including “numerous bruises.” He also had to use forceps to remove the tampon, which was “stuck at the top.”
Hand is seeking damages ranging from $1.79 million to $2.13 million for lost wages, housing changes and medical expenses, according to a statement of claim reported in the New York Times in 2021.
Judge Alexander Owens informed the jury that the trial was expected to last two weeks. It will reopen at 10:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
