Carlos Prates doesn’t feel well unless he smokes a few cigarettes.
One of the fastest rising stars in the sport, Preitz became a rising star in the welterweight division with his knockout win over Neil Magny at UFC Vegas 100 last weekend. Pleitz is a fan favorite for his proven knockout power and famous smoking habit. It’s an amazing habit for an athlete of his caliber.
When asked about his average cigarette consumption per day, “The Nightmare” recently told Ariel Helwani that he smokes between seven and 10 cigarettes every day.
Pretz’s coaches initially advised him to quit smoking, but he has recently started doing so. There were also some negative effects of trying to quit. After quitting smoking for a week, Prates gained weight by avoiding overeating and going to the gym.
“Before they tell me a lot (stop), they’ve told me a lot before,” Preetz said. “But now…I tried to quit once, then I quit for a week, and then I quit.” [gained] 5 km [11 pounds] within 6 days. Because I eat a lot and I don’t come to the gym for training. ”
Preetz doesn’t quit smoking during fight camp or even on fight day. Due to strict restrictions in place inside the arena, the 31-year-old smoked his last cigarette just before entering the arena.
“I’m going to smoke my last cigarette before I come to Apex, because you can’t smoke there,” he said. “You can’t smoke anything there, you can’t drink anything there, only water, what they give you. And eat what they give you.”
Preetz went 5-4 early in his career, but has since won 16 of his last 18 starts and finished 15 times. Pratz has recorded four straight bonus stoppages since his UFC debut in February of this year.
