Dana White is so angry about the Ultimate Fighting Championship ranking system that he might change it forever.
UFC rankings are determined by a vote of the media committee, which White has criticized for years. The UFC chief’s biggest problem appears to be that Jon Jones (28-1) is not at the top of the pound-for-pound list.
Jones refused to unify the heavyweight title with interim champion Tom Aspinall (15-3), instead opting to fight Stipe Miocic (20-5) after a three-year hiatus. However, White fiercely defended “Bones” and rallied to help him earn the title of P4P King. Jones successfully defended his strap with a third-round technical knockout of Miocic at UFC 309 in New York last weekend.
In the latest rankings after UFC 309, Jones has moved into the No. 2 spot ahead of light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. But White remains disappointed that lightweight champion Islam Makhachev (26-1) is ranked higher than Jones. White uploaded a screenshot of the rankings and vowed to abolish the current system. He also tagged Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for promoting a new ranking process that uses artificial intelligence.
“We have to get rid of these clowns!!” @Zack [Mark Zuckerberg] Let’s finish this AI transaction as soon as possible!!!”
Jones returned to the Octagon last year for the first time in three years and defeated Cyril Gane in his heavyweight debut to win the title at UFC 285. He was then sidelined with an injury until his return against Miocic on Saturday. Meanwhile, Makhachev has defended his title three times since winning it from Charles Oliveira in 2022. Dagestan, who has competed in almost every division, is expected to put his skills on the line next in a rematch with No. 1 contender Arman Tsarukyan.
