Cory Sandhagen (17-5) has his eyes set on Petr Yan (18-5) after the latter’s win at UFC Macau.
Yan put on a strong clinic against Deiveson Figueiredo in the main event of UFC Macau last weekend, earning a unanimous decision victory. Sandhagen then shouted “Relentless”, already clinching victory in 2021. Sandhagen is hoping to avenge his loss against the Russian, even if he can’t face him right away.
“Congratulations, Jan. Maybe that’s what you’ll do next,” Sandhagen said on his YouTube channel. “I don’t really know what the department is. [got]
It continues. Actually, I haven’t heard much about it. I was hoping to hear about where they were going, probably sometime next week. I know they’ve been waiting for this battle to unfold. Congratulations, Mr. Yang. I still want it back. Let’s see if that happens next. ”
Yan bounced back from a title loss in 2021 with a unanimous decision victory over Sandhagen over Aljamain Sterling. Yan then lost heavily in three matches to Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili, despite being an elite competitor to Sterling. The 31-year-old has since returned to title contention with back-to-back wins over Yadong Song and Figueiredo.
Meanwhile, Sandhagen bounced back from his loss to Yan with back-to-back wins over Song, Marlon Vera and Rob Font. The 32-year-old’s winning streak ended when he lost a unanimous decision to Umar Nurmagomedov in a potential title eliminator at UFC Saudi Arabia in August of this year.
