Heavyweights Kennedy Nizeczuk and Łukasz Brzeski kicked off the UFC 310 card on Saturday in Las Vegas, the final UFC PPV event of 2024.
Former light heavyweight Nzechukwu moved up the rankings heading into his final fight and was looking for continued success against Poland’s Brzeski.
Brzeski started the fight aggressively, targeting the legs, carefully staying on the edge of Nizechuk’s leg jabs. Lukasz clashed with a club shot for a few seconds, then went for the body. Kennedy tried to control his opponent’s wrist, but remained modest. Lukasz’s boxing hit the mark as often as he hit his opponent’s high guard. Nzechukwu landed teep to the body and then landed partially high. Kennedy slipped out of the way of the punches and landed a thumping knee. Brzeski stumbled back, but barely flinched as he returned the punch.
With a minute left in the round, Nzechukwu began to find a rhythm, breaking his opponent with audible hooks. In the final seconds of the round, Nzechukwu landed a short counter hook as Brzeski went for a blind shot. After a while the battle ended. The stylish highlight-reel finish showed off a defensively sound Kennedy, made his new weight class look easy, and really showed off his diverse kickboxing arsenal.
In his post-fight interview, Kennedy talked about why he moved up in weight after fighting 11 fights at 205 pounds in the UFC. “The doctor said it was damaging to my health and wouldn’t be good in the long run.”
“It’s progress from here,” the unassuming 32-year-old said calmly before leaving the Octagon, adding: “I want to keep busy next year.”
Official results: Kennedy Nzechukwu vs. Lukasz Brzeski TKO, round 1, 4:51
