Alex Pereira believes Jon Jones can beat Tom Aspinall.
Jones returned after a three-year hiatus and made quick work of Cyril Gane to win the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285 in March 2023. Jones was then scheduled to defend his title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November 2023, but that was forced. Out due to injury.
Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich by knockout in a hastily arranged interim title fight on the same card. But Jones was adamant about holding on to face Miocic, who he won by spinning back kick knockout at UFC 309 last month. Meanwhile, Aspinall defended his interim strap with a knockout win over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in July of this year.
However, Jones has made it clear that he has no intention of fighting Aspinall in a title unification bout unless he is offered big money. While much of the MMA community has accused Jones of covering up Aspinall, Pereira believes the former light heavyweight champion can defeat “Ratel.” According to ‘Poitin’, Jones’ extensive experience will give him an edge in a potential matchup against the Englishman.
“I think Jon Jones has a lot of experience as a team,” Pereira told TNT Sports. “Some people say, ‘This is Aspinall, that is Aspinall,’ but at the end of the day it comes down to experience. Jon Jones is an experienced guy. He’s been there, so I think he’s going to win.”
