Renato Moicano has been moved up to the main event against Islam Makhachev at UFC 311, while heavyweights Geirton Almeida and Sergey Spivac have been promoted to the main card.
Almeida suffered his first loss in as many years (and third overall) in 2024 when he lost to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299, but bounced back with a win over Alexander Romanov in June. As for Spivac, ‘Polar Bear’ is 4-1 in his past five fights, with his only loss coming against former interim champion Cyril Gane.
Almeida stepped forward to start the fight and started a clinch. Spivach was able to trip Almeida and throw him to the canvas. “Polar Bear” stood up to land on a large piece of ground and pounded with a powerful elbow from the top position. Spivac landed some good strikes before Almeida was able to turn the tables and come out on top. Almeida transitioned to full mount, but went for a rear naked choke, allowing Spivak to get on top. As both fighters scrambled to their feet, Almeida landed a thunderous right hand that knocked Spivak unconscious.
Almeida then knocked Spivach to the ground and delivered brutal ground-and-pound from back control, forcing referee Jason Herzog to stop the fight. The Brazilian prospect returned to the win column with a TKO victory over another talented grappler. Almeida asked for a performance bonus in his post-fight interview while calling for matches against Cyril Gane and other top fighters.
This was an impressive performance from Almeida, who is on a winning streak since losing to Curtis Blaydes.
Official result: Jailton Almeida def. Sergey Spivac, TKO, round 1, 4:53
