Max Holloway has options.
It’s incredibly rare to see Hawaii’s best fighter establish himself with such a spectacular victory at UFC 300 this past weekend. Holloway, who is currently the newest fighter to hold the BMF title, can essentially decide his future within the UFC.
Holloway faced one of the top contenders in the lightweight division, Justin Gaethje, for the title. After a great five-round performance that clearly put him high on the scorecards, “Blessed” defeated “The Highlight” with a final 10-second toss-down with one second left. As a former featherweight champion, Holloway is interested in reclaiming that title. However, there are a lot of exciting possibilities in the lightweight division. Whether it’s defending the BMF title or a shot at the undisputed gold medal.
But the biggest opponent may not be the last man to beat Holloway at 145 pounds, whose name is Alexander Volkanovski.
“It would be hard not to say that, considering it was finally announced that he is actually fighting, Conor. [McGregor] 2,” Holloway said. KHON’s Rob DeMello When I returned to Hawaii. “I think that was the biggest fight.
“Ideally, a legacy looking to regain the undisputed title. Must go with [Ilia] Topuria, that’s right. He beat a guy I couldn’t help but understand. Let’s take a look. We’re posting little Bible verses on Twitter right now. Life is good. He’ll probably be next, but first of all, Justin Gaethje kicked like a horse. I feel it today. we will recover. ”
In 2024, the majority of MMA fans may not even know that Holloway and McGregor fought before. The bout took place in 2013 at featherweight, where the Irishman defeated his fellow future UFC champion by unanimous decision before being out of action due to a torn ACL. Since then, Holloway is 18-3 in the division (21-6 at featherweight, 26-7 overall).
Holloway, 32, is in no rush to return to the Octagon despite the layout in front of him. Unsurprisingly, these kicks took a toll on the BMF King, as UFC CEO Dana White stated after the fight that his swelling was alarmingly severe. Holloway added that he plans to celebrate their wedding anniversary with his wife and is looking forward to meeting his son Rush, who was “more excited than I was” about the win. Maybe,” he said.
A match with Topuria is as good as any matchup that could happen after UFC 300. They both want it, and it makes sense in every way. As for Topuria, a fast-rising superstar champion, “El Matador”‘s dream of headlining the first UFC event in Spain has been a constant topic of discussion. It’s unlikely that will happen this year, but things are still trending in that direction, especially if he maintains his championship status.
In Hawaii, on the other hand, it’s a different story. The UFC has never held an event in the state before, but it’s still having a great time with a fighter of Holloway’s star power. After all, those in power have repeatedly asserted how impossible that is, and Holloway understands that.
“I heard them talking about maybe doing a show here in Hawaii,” Holloway said. “I know what it is. I know what it is and how much money it costs, but to be honest, I’ve kind of accepted that I might not be able to come here. So the next best thing is the 9th island, which has no infrastructure. [arena] big enough. That’s all.
“A lot of people, a lot of Hawaiian people, we do this and that. But I don’t want to do that to my people. When I get home, I want them to grow up and grow up.”
In the post-fight scrum at UFC 300, Holloway disputed the Hawaii story at a venue like Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Ninth Island has served Holloway well so far, and he thinks it’s the best place to be in the future. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t still want to see something happen in his hometown.
“There are a lot of other UFC fighters on the roster,” Holloway said. “Brad [Tavares]group [Ige], maybe one of them will have a fight here at night. Headline and I can just sit back and enjoy the show here. Worst case scenario, they want to take advantage of the Hawaii guys, so you have to go back to Las Vegas. It felt like we saw the flag there in this last game. It was like the Battle of Hawaii. lots of flags. There were a lot of people there, a lot of Hawaiians, and it was amazing. ”

Some of you may be wondering about voting and why I didn’t select the “winner” or “loser” option for the currently booked fighters. That’s because, realistically, in Max’s current position, meaningful results don’t really matter to any of them, right? That’s the power of his BMF title… yeah, me too. I might have snuck in the last title just for fun. Poor Belal. Blessed man forever!
