Daniel Cormier believes Jamahal Hill threw him before being KOed by Alex Pereira at UFC 300.
Pereira defeated Hill in the first round of their light heavyweight title fight last Saturday. The final scene of the match occurred immediately after Hill landed a low blow to Pereira. Pereira waved off referee Herb Dean to continue the match. Just seconds later, Pereira dropped Hill with his signature left hook and finished him off.
Cormier believes Dean should pull Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) and Hill (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) apart after an unintentional low blow instead of leaving them in the exact same position. It suggests that it was. Cormier believes Hill was distracted by pausing instead of coming to a complete stop.
“After watching it with him (Hill), there are some things that I see a little bit differently,” Cormier said on “Funky and the Champ” with Ben Askren. “He talked about foot placement, range and everything else as a southpaw fighting a conventional fighter. …I run a business with my cousin and my nephew, and my nephew thought the same way. They. thought Herb Dean had made a mistake. We all get lost in the idea of Herb stepping in, Alex holding out, and Herb backing off, separately. We say we should have, but we come back together as a fresh start.
“That didn’t happen. Shortly thereafter, Alex landed a shot that took Jamahal down and knocked him out, seconds after what was supposed to be a restart.”
Cormier continued, “I’m not taking sides in this contract. I’m just asking what you think about it.” Typically when an illegal strike occurs, players separate and then regroup. At that moment, it was as if Alex said, “I have the timing and I have the right foot position.” He went and landed, but it felt like they were much closer than they should have been. ”
PFL analyst and former referee John McCarthy also weighs in. on Xsaid Dean, who handled the situation perfectly.

“Hearing people who are supposed to know the sport of mixed martial arts disparage the actions of @HerbDeanMMA as if he was responsible for the @JamahalH @ufc 300 knockout is inherently bad for the sport. And it’s incredibly embarrassing. Let’s be as clear as possible about this, everyone. Herb made a perfect move by kicking @AlexPereira to the groin to cancel a timeout and then allow the match to continue. A player who is fouled by a strike can control how long it takes to fully recover from the foul, often allowing up to five minutes if necessary. , the fighter doesn’t want to stop the fight because he feels he’s gained momentum during a fight and doesn’t want to give his opponent any time. Everything that Herb Dean did, he trained officers to do under the same circumstances. Fortunately, instead of talking heads guessing what’s right and wrong, we have officials who understand the rules and mechanics needed to successfully run a world title fight. He was in a cage.”
