For the third time in the past five UFC pay-per-view events, former U.S. President Donald Trump exited UFC 299 in Miami, Florida on Saturday night, along with UFC CEO Dana White.
Trump previously participated in back-to-back events, UFC 295 and UFC 296, near the end of 2023.
Trump, who was the country’s 45th president from 2016 to 2020, was seen in attendance sitting on the Octagon side with White. The two have known each other since 2001, when White bought the multibillion-dollar promotion.
Politics aside, White credits Trump with giving the UFC a chance at early success in the early days of the Zuffa era. One of the first cities to sanction MMA and ultimately allow the UFC to hold events under a unified ruleset was Atlantic City, New Jersey, which subsequently hosted UFC 31 and subsequent events. did.
In today’s UFC landscape, cards are being held in New Jersey, New York, and other East Coast locations, thanks to President Trump’s efforts to provide a platform for the promotion.
White has since become friends with Trump, attending the 2016 Republican National Convention and events and praising Trump’s support during various media scrums.
It’s safe to assume that UFC 299 won’t be the last time Trump makes an Octagon-style entrance to watch a fight on the floor.
At the time of writing, the main card is off to an up-and-coming start with Petr Yan and Jacques Della Maddalena winning their respective matches, with three matches remaining.
In the highly anticipated rematch, Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera will clash for the bantamweight title in the main event nightcap.
