Xiaonan Yan has explained the chaotic ending of the first round of her fight against Weili Zhang at UFC 300.
Yan (18-4) challenged his compatriot for the strawweight title in the co-main event of UFC 300 last weekend. ‘Fury’ showed immense grit leading up to his unanimous decision loss to the champion. Yan was caught in a deep rear-naked choke in the final seconds of the first frame and appeared to be knocked unconscious as time expired. She was clearly struggling on her way back to the corner, but she managed to pick herself up and persevere for four more rounds. The Chinese celebrity admitted that she almost fainted, but she did not pass out completely.
“I think after she got my back and got me into a rear-naked choke position right away, I still believe I can defend it,” the 34-year-old said on The MMA Hour. Ta. “And when she swept me, I was heading to the roof of the arena and then I saw the clock on the big screen. So I saw there was like 10 seconds left. , I thought, “Okay, I can make it through this round.” So at the last moment when they rang the bell, I was almost out. Like someone almost knocked me out, yet I quickly realized that I needed to get back up and walked to my corner and gave it my all to show that I could still keep the fight going. ”
Ultimate Fighting Championship cutman Rudy Hernandez could be heard asking Yan’s corner if he wanted her to wake up, and they apparently agreed. Hernandez was then seen putting his fingers up Xiaonan’s nostrils in an attempt to wake her up, and commentators Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier accused him of using smelly salts. I guessed that it was. Ms Yang admits she didn’t remember much of what happened during that break, but she’s certain she didn’t wake up smelling the forbidden salt. There is.
“So, to be honest, I didn’t notice at all what the cornerman was doing during the round because when I got back to the corner, he was still recovering from the choke. So all I can see is Yuliya and All I hear is Danny standing in front of me and talking. But I can’t absorb anything they say. In fact, I don’t notice what the cornermen were doing. I did…but the salt smell thing doesn’t make any sense. No one put them there to make me smell that smell. No, no one used those things to wake me up. It didn’t make any sense. This is just like my previous fights, you know I’m not allowed to use it.”
Former referee “Big” John McCarthy recently explained that cutman Hernandez may have pressed hard with his finger just below Yan’s nose to activate nerve endings. This is a technique often used to revive a shaken athlete.
