LAS VEGAS – Mark Coleman was honored during UFC 300 after a life-threatening experience.
Coleman, 59, saved his parents from a burning house in Ohio last month. She was sedated and intubated due to smoke inhalation, but she made a full recovery after “fighting for her life” while in the hospital.
The UFC Hall of Famer was invited to Saturday’s event at T-Mobile Arena, where he wrapped the BMF belt around victorious Max Holloway’s waist after knocking out Justin Gaethje.
“I’m lucky to be here,” Coleman said backstage at UFC 300. “I’m healthy and health is a wealth and I have it. I’m so lucky. About a month ago, God was with me and got me through the scariest night of my life.
“We got through it because my mom and dad are still alive. I didn’t have the wherewithal to keep my dog, Hummer, but he’s been with me for the rest of my life. As a dog, he meant the world to me.”
Looking at the situation in the UFC, Coleman said she would love to see the women’s BMF title, which was recently claimed by Jessica Andrade.
“We definitely need a (women’s) BMF and they’ll let us know who that is,” Coleman said. “If she comes out of retirement, Joanna (Jedrzejczyk) would be the perfect BMF to start. Who wants Joanna? She would come out of her retirement for that. ,surely.”
