Henry Cejudo doesn’t think Bo Niccal is ready to be on top after UFC 300.
Knickal (6-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) defeated Cody Brundage (10-6 MMA, UFC 4) in the second round of the main card opener on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He remained undefeated against opponents (wins, 5 losses).
Although Nickal gave himself two thumbs down for his performance, Cejudo believes this outstanding wrestler still has championship potential, but it’s not there at the moment.
“If you’re disappointed in your performance, don’t put that pressure on yourself. Honestly, I believe I can be a future champion at 185 pounds, but I’m not ready to break into the top 10. “Hmm,” Cejudo said. “Pound 4 Pound” podcast with Kamaru Usman. “Even if you put them up against a big guy like Marvin Vettori, they have good jiu-jitsu, they’re big guys and they can wrestle. Even if you put them up against a guy like Paulo Borracinha (Costa)…I mean , that he’s not ready to be in the top 10.”
“At 185 pounds, I think he needs to go three rounds. He needs to understand that threshold because he’s still beating them early and winning. If the champion What would it feel like to actually go five rounds against guys like Sean Strickland, Paulo Borrachinha, and Robert Whittaker if you wanted to be Jared Cannonier in this weight class without a doubt? It’s stacked up. I think he needs to hold his horse. I think he’s probably about 10 fights away from becoming a UFC champion.”
Nickal called out Anthony Hernandez, who has won five straight fights and is ranked 12th in the UFC middleweight rankings. He is scheduled to face Roman Dorise at UFC 302 on June 1st.
