DAZN, 8pm ET, Yoenis Telles vs. Joseph Jackson.
A show of the most valuable prospects from Orlando. At 154 and 23 years old, Telles is a legitimate prospect from Cuba, a new contender, but one of a new generation of fighters who don’t necessarily “fight like a Cuban.” Jackson isn’t a big prospect, he’s a 35-year-old club warrior from North Carolina with a paper record, but this is his chance to show something. I will create a thread for everyone watching the live show.
Saturday, April 27th
DAZN, 2pm ET, Peter McGrail vs. Mark Leach
This was supposed to be McGrail trying to avenge his crushing loss to Jarico O’Quinn, but O’Quinn was unavailable, so this was his replacement. Beatriz Ferreira will also be aiming for her first world title on this card, taking on Yanina Lezcano for the vacant IBF lightweight belt. I will create a thread for everyone watching the live show.
DAZN, 8pm ET, Jose Ramirez vs. Lances Barthelemy / Virgil Ortiz Jr. vs. Tomas Delorme
BLH has live updates. Ramirez makes his Golden Boy debut in a fight that no one asked for, but if Golden Boy/DAZN is overpaying for this fight, then surely they’re taking all the better fights that Top Rank was offering. It would have been worth avoiding. Personally, I think this is a sneaky matchup for Jose. He can sometimes be soothed by the fights of others, and Barthelemy can be very soothed. It’s not a word. Ortiz continues his comeback trajectory at 154 against Durorme. He was once a 147 prospect but never really took off and is 1-3 in his last four games. Three games are against opponents who can fight, and one game is against opponents who cannot. Jojo Diaz is also on the card to fight Oscar Duarte, but Diaz doesn’t appear to have made a big offer from his rival’s promoter after suffering his fourth loss in five fights in February.
TrillerTV PPV, 8pm ET, Ian Greene vs. Roy Ballinger.
Don King’s card in Casino Miami’s defunct Jai Alai Court, the boxing card that King promoted, should really be called “The Throne Room” or something. (If they start doing that, I demand compensation for my great idea.) Also on this card are Ahmed El Bialli vs. Sergio Jimenez, Lawrence Newton vs. Luis Tenorio, Angel Perez vs. Nicolas. Jivan is included and these three matches are honestly better on paper than advertised. Headliners, but none of them are really good or all that meaningful. PPV is $29.99.
TrillerTV PPV, 8pm ET, Clash in Calgary
Calgary Olympus Boxing Promotional Card. That’s pretty much what you would expect from a Calgary card. PPV is $19.99, BoxRec’s card is here.
