CHICAGO – Oddsmakers did not favor Shamil Musayev against Logan Storey at PFL 3 in 2024, but the Russian welterweight is likely to be the favorite for the rest of the season.
In a matchup between PFL debut fighters, Musaev (17-0-1 MMA, 1-0 PFL) was the first to stop former Bellator interim champion Story (15-3 MMA, 0-1 PFL) with a hard punch. Ta. Musaev put the story in jeopardy late in the first round, but maintained his momentum and finished just 27 seconds into the second round.
“Some people treated me like a loser. I don’t know, maybe they didn’t do enough research,” Musaev told reporters at the post-match press conference.
Musaev maintained his undefeated record and earned five points, good enough for third place in the welterweight regular season rankings behind six-point earners Don Mudge and Murad Ramazanov.
Musaev knows he needs to work harder to survive the season and is not placing too much emphasis on the outcome of his battle with Story.
“It was a bad day for him, but I think it was a good day for me,” Musaev said of Story. “I landed perfectly.”
