Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry, looked a little gloating during his son’s 12-round majority decision victory over Devin Haney last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Calling out those who have doubts
At the post-fight press conference, Henry signed out boxing analysts Tim Bradley, Chris Algieri and Paulie Malignaggi, telling them they were wrong by Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs), who looked like a masterpiece. It was reported that this was proven. He told how he overcame previously undefeated Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) to win in front of a shocked crowd.
These three were just a few of the players who chose to compete against Garcia. Lots of media looked on, fans saw this as a fake win for Haney, and it effectively gave Ryan no chance to win the match.
sweet taste of revenge
Haney’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, predicted that Ryan might not come out of the locker room for the fight. If he did, he’d either jump out of the ring and skedaddle, or pull a “no-mas” on a stool and call it off to save his own skin.
“Paulie Malignaggi, Timothy Bradley, Chris Algieri, Steve Kim, Mario Lopez…they’re all shit. I’m so glad you lost and Ryan proved them wrong. He gave it to me,” Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry Garcia, said at the game. Post-match press conferenceattacked members of the media who picked Devin Haney to beat Kingley last Saturday night.
It would be great to see Henry Garcia get the last laugh and gloat a little by kicking sand in the faces of many of the guys who faced Ryan in this match. Some of them, including Devin’s father, Bill Haney, expected this to be the last game of Ryan’s career and that he would retire.
turning the tables
Bill talked about how Devin took a step in the right direction in boxing by eliminating Ryan. This was a strange way of thanking Devin for his decision to throw Haney a bone, giving Haney a fighting chance and an extra $1.5 million to fatten up. A $500,000-per-pound bet he made cost him his wallet. A perfect example of someone who is completely ungrateful and bites the hand that feeds them.
Now, it’s not Ryan who’s depressed over the dire situation, it’s Haney who faces a bleak future outlook.
