UFC Apex will host its first ever World Wrestling Entertainment event on June 9th.
The Las Vegas-based promotion announced Monday that the venue will be the venue for “NXT Battlegrounds” on June 9. Ultimate Fighting Championship and WWE merged last year under the same ownership umbrella, TKO Group Holdings.
“We are always exploring new frontiers to showcase NXT and are excited to partner with UFC to bring Battlegrounds to this world-class event and production facility,” said WWE Talent Development. Shawn Michaels, senior vice president of creative, said in a release.
ESPN reports that NXT Battleground was originally scheduled to take place at Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia before moving to Las Vegas. The reason for the move was not disclosed. It’s unclear how many tickets will be available for the event, but the release states that “a limited number of NXT Battlegrounds Priority Passes will be available soon.”
The WWE event will not conflict with that weekend’s UFC, as the Fight Night card scheduled for June 8th will be held at KFCYum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The promotion typically hosts Dana White’s Contender Series cards, as well as numerous UFC Fight Night events in her 130,000 square foot facility.
The promotion returns to Apex on Saturday with UFC on ESPN 55, headlined by a flyweight showdown between Mateusz Nicolau and Alex Perez.
