Old welterweight politician Tim Means faced violent young Uros Medic in the opening round of the main card of UFC Vegas 91.
Medic has always been all-action and very good when allowed to attack, but wrestling has been his kryptonite. Tim Means, 40, tried to force that wrestling but found the improved Uros was a brick wall in front of him. The brick wall immediately fought back and ultimately earned one of the best knockouts of the year.
Means scored a takedown on the explosive striker early in the match, but could only get a clinch. Medic eventually broke free and landed a big elbow on the break. Means attacked him and shot again, but in a great show of Medic’s balance he reached the clinch again, and the second time he broke out after a long time. They returned to striking territory, but this time the match stopped there. Tim Means’ level turned into his brutal left uppercut that left Means stiff as a board. Herb Dean didn’t intervene right away, and Means took one more punch before finishing.
After securing a “Performance of the Night” bonus, the seemingly reluctant Croatian-born medic told Daniel Cormier that his previous bouts had been tougher than others. He said he was unable to celebrate. When he finally saw his knockout, he drew attention to the welterweight division, saying, “Sometimes when I’m alone I look at my hands and think, ‘What the hell?'” With that much knockout power, he will be a dangerous opponent. For the next person to face that hand.
