Belal Muhammad is finally on his way to winning the Ultimate Fighting Championship gold medal.
UFC announced
On Thursday, UFC 304 will be the main attraction. The highlight of Coop Live in Manchester, England is the welterweight title bout between Leon Edwards (22-3, 1 NC) vs. Muhammad (23-3, 1 NC). The two tangled for the first time in 2021, and the match ended in a no-contest after Edwards landed an accidental eye poke. This July 27th show will feature a champion who is undefeated in 13 fights compared to a challenger who is undefeated in his last 10 fights.
Edwards took the 170-pound title from Kamaru Usman in 2022, defeating the champion with a head kick worthy of “Knockout of the Year.” In the rematch about seven months later, the British side won by a majority decision. Edwards’ first defense against an opponent not named Usman was against Colby Covington in December, where Edwards won 1-1 in four rounds to advance to a decision. On his way to the gold medal, Edwards defeated names like Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, Vicente Luque, and Nate Diaz.
Muhammad hasn’t looked back since losing in the third round to Jeff Neal in 2019. Notably, he surpassed the likes of Gilbert Burns, Sean Brady, Luque, Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia, with each of his previous five opponents (all winners) finishing in the top 10. Notably, he handed Brady the only loss of his career, and it came by stoppage for strikes. “Remember the Name” has a low overall finish rate of 26%, and has only won two within the distance in his current 10 races.
