The French city of Lyon will get its first major MMA fight card when it hosts the Professional Fighters League at the end of the year.
The organization announced Friday via a press release that the 2024 PFL Europe Finals will be held on December 14th. The venue will be the LDLC Arena in Decines, Lyon, France, where a $100,000 spin-off tournament will be won. The arena completed construction in November 2023, and WWE hosted two shows in the building in May.
The 2024 PFL Europe season ends on this day, with four weight divisions: bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight and women’s flyweight. The first PFL Europe Show of the year was held in March, with 155-pound and 170-pound athletes advancing to the semifinals. The final four bouts in the welterweight division will see Ibrahima Mane take on Daniele Miceli and Florim Zendeli, but his opponent is currently undecided. The lightweight bouts to determine the finalists will take place in the form of Ignacio Capela vs. Connor Hughes and Jakub Kazuba vs. Daniele Scatizzi.
The second of four PFL Europe events will be held in Newcastle, England on June 8th and will feature eight 135ers and women’s 125ers. On September 28th in Glasgow, Scotland, the four weight divisions will narrow down the competitors to two weight classes and the playoffs for the European tournament will begin. Previous tournament winners include Khurshed Kaholov (135), Kasbah (155), Yakov Nedeau (205) and Dakota Ditcheva (women’s 125).
