UFC 308’s original co-main event between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev appears to still be going ahead as scheduled, though an apparent error on the promotion’s social media channels briefly put the bout in jeopardy.
Whittaker and Chimaev were scheduled to fight in the main event of UFC on ABC 6 in June of this year, but “Bolz” withdrew due to a serious illness. Whittaker won by a first-round knockout over Ikram Aliskerov, who replaced Chimaev on short notice. The highly anticipated bout between Whittaker and Chimaev has been rescheduled as a five-round co-main event at UFC 308, which will take place on October 26 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
However, the matchup was briefly thrown into doubt by the promotion on Sunday, when UFC tweeted that the third bout from the top of the card, Ciril Gane vs. Alexander Volkov, had been promoted to the co-main event. The tweet was quickly deleted, however, before the promotion reconfirmed Whittaker vs. Chimaev as the co-main event for UFC 308.
UFC has deleted the tweet.

Whittaker is currently on a two-fight win streak following a technical knockout loss to current champion Dricus du Plessis, while Chimaev has not fought since his majority decision win over Kamaru Usman at UFC 291 in October 2023, a bout that saw him move up permanently to middleweight. The main event at UFC 308 will be a highly-anticipated featherweight title bout between champion Ilia Topuria and former champion Max Holloway.
