The main event of UFC 307 was about to be postponed.
Alex Pereira (12-2) takes on Khalil Rountree (13-6) for the light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 307 on October 5th in Salt Lake City, Utah. . Pereira put on an impressive clinic as the bout progressed, earning him a fourth-round technical knockout victory, according to the official scorecard.
Pereira then revealed that in addition to the tough test against Rountree, he also had a tough training camp. “Poitin” was dealing with visa issues, a fever that required antibiotics, and a lingering injury leading up to UFC 307. After successfully defending his title for the third time in the shortest time in Ultimate Fighting Championship history, he will be taking another break.
Daniel Cormier revealed that Pereira’s camp was so troublesome that it jeopardized his UFC 307 headliner. After the fight, Pereira’s manager and coach told DC that they had informed the UFC that he might have to sit out after arriving in Salt Lake City. While it would be a huge setback for the UFC, the promotion did not put any pressure on Pereira, who is arguably 2024’s biggest star. If Pereira were unavailable, the UFC was reportedly planning to spice up the co-headlining women’s bantamweight title fight between Raquel Pennington and Julianna Pena in the main event.
“They told the UFC, ‘We’re going to Salt Lake.’ [City]we’re going to try to train, but we might pull out,” Cormier said on the Good Guys/Bad Guys podcast. “The UFC told him, ‘It’s going to be awful, but let us know how it goes.’ We have two title fights, so we’ll promote one of them if we have to.”
