Aljamain Sterling is looking to move up the rankings despite his recent losses.
Sterling faced undefeated featherweight contender Movsar Evloev in the preliminary round of UFC 310 earlier this month. “The Funk Master” dropped a unanimous decision against Evloev, but the Russian faced perhaps his toughest test yet.
Sterling doesn’t think it’s a complete loss based on his performance. The former bantamweight champion doesn’t think he deserves a fight below his ranking after splitting his first two appearances in the 145-pound division.
Sterling recently approached Arnold Allen and would ideally face him at the O2 Arena when the UFC returns to London on March 22nd. Sterling is otherwise eyeing former title challenger Brian Ortega on the same schedule.
“I’d like to be back in March. If I can fight in March or April at the latest, I’d like to fight Arnold Allen or I’d like to fight Brian Ortega,” Sterling told Home of Fights. told. “I don’t think I need to go down in the rankings just because I lost to Mohsah. I almost felt like I should have been treated as a ‘W’… against someone who is 1 win, 1 loss and is said to be the next champion.” I think there is no need to fight to lower the ranking after a loss. It’s a battle that many people still think I won. ”
Sterling moved up to 145 pounds after losing his bantamweight belt to Sean O’Malley by knockout at UFC 292 last year. Sterling scored a dominant unanimous decision victory over Calvin Kattar in his featherweight debut at UFC 300 in April, but lost his most recent fight against Evloev.
