When grappling virtuoso Beatriz Mesquita makes the switch to mixed martial arts this weekend, the possibilities may be endless.
Ten-time Jiu-Jitsu World Champion Mesquita will compete in mixed martial arts on Saturday at Spaten Fight Night. She will face fellow debutant Georgina Ramos in a bout that is highly anticipated by the BJJ community and many fans in Brazil. The IBJJF Hall of Famer, considered one of the greatest female champions in the history of Jiu-Jitsu, has been training in mixed martial arts for nearly a year under coach Marcos “Palumpinha” da Matta at American Top Team.
“She was immature, but her growth was amazing,” Da Matta told Sheldog. “She helped Kayla.

[Montague]He has five MMA fights under his belt. [a] I am currently training with her for my white belt.”
A Carlson Gracie black belt, Mesquita has competed in various grappling tournaments and faced off against MMA stars while training at ATT. In December, Mesquita defeated former Ultimate Fighting Championship champion Miesha Tate with an armbar. She also made waves in March when she choked out former UFC flyweight title challenger Jennifer Maia in a flash at the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championships. According to Palumpinha, it’s only a matter of time before the bantamweight makes it to the UFC.
“I want to do three fights this year,” the coach explained, “and two more in 2025, to make her the best fighter. The truth is, UFC needs a fighter like Beer at 135 pounds, they have Mackenzie.”
[Dern] At 115, maybe Erin Blanchfield at 125, but there’s no one at her level at 135. Not only is Beer a jiu-jitsu legend who fights to submission, she speaks great English, knows how to spice up a fight and is very beautiful.”
In his coach’s opinion, the debut against Ramos will be a big test for the fighter. The stakes are high considering that, although it is his pro debut, it is the only MMA bout on the card. Headlined by an exhibition boxing match between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, the show will be broadcast live on Combat Brazil and Rede Global and is expected to draw a sizable audience. The focus will be on Ramos, a 33-year-old from Rio de Janeiro who will be facing a woman named Ramos who has made the transition from boxing. Ramos should have the advantage in the stands.
“Without a doubt, JoJo Ramos deserves our respect. She has already stepped in the ring in kickboxing and boxing matches, but will also be making her MMA debut in what will be a classic striker vs grappler battle.” [matchup] And I am sure Bea will win,” the ATT coach concluded.
