Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Benoit St. Denis is hoping to make it three straight wins when he stops in Paris.
St. Denis (13-2, 1 no-kick) is expected to make an appearance in front of his hometown crowd at UFC Fight Night in Paris on September 28. As first reported by Ag. Fight, he will face returning 155-pounder Renato Carneiro (19-5-1). The lightweight stylistic clash has been verbally agreed between the two fighters, but no contract has been signed yet. The news has since been confirmed by multiple media outlets. The only other bout officially announced for the lineup is Jo-Anderson Brito vs. William Gomis at 145 pounds, but it has been rumored that Ciril Gane could make an appearance and potentially be the main event of the event at the Accor Arena.
The Bayonne, France, native of Saint-Denis has competed on the past two UFC cards in the City of Light, defeating Gabriel Miranda in 2022 and Thiago Moises in 2023. Most recently, “God of War” succumbed to a strike from Dustin Poirier in a title eliminator at UFC 299. The loss ended a five-fight winning streak that included first-round stoppages over the likes of Matt Frevola and Ismael Bonfim.
The 35-year-old Carneiro is on the longest winning streak in UFC, having won three straight fights since joining the league in 2014. In 2022, “Moicano” beat Brad Liddell, returned in 2024 to win a decision over Drew Dober and then defeated Jalin Turner with elbows and punches in April. Notably, the win over Turner marked the first time the submission specialist ended a fight with strikes, with all 10 of his previous stoppage wins coming by submission.
