Carlos Prates (21-6) has high aspirations early in his Ultimate Fighting Championship career.
Prates recently sent out a warning after exchanging words with last year’s welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. Muhammad was trailing teammate Charlie Radke, who was on a six-fight winning streak, when he faced Preetz at UFC Louisville in June 2024. “The Nightmare” landed a shocking blow to Radke by hitting him with a knee to the body near the end of the opening round. Mohammad’s bewildered reaction was caught on camera in the immediate aftermath. Prates walked towards the champion and exchanged a few words, which were inaudible.
Mr. Prates recently reminded Mr. Muhammad of their interactions and warned him of the possibility of meeting soon.
“Champion, remember my words,” Prates wrote on Instagram while sharing a clip of his finish against Radtke.
Undefeated since 2019, Prates earned his contract by defeating Mitch Ramirez on Dana White’s 2023 Contender Series. The Brazilian showed star potential early in his UFC career, cutting an interesting profile with his smoking habits and performances. . The 31-year-old completed the race four times in a row, earning an additional $50,000 bonus each time. Preitz most recently scored an impressive one-punch KO of veteran Neil Magny in the UFC Vegas 100 headliner this November.
Meanwhile, Muhammad had a long road to the welterweight title, going undefeated in 10 fights before dethroning Leon Edwards at UFC 304 in July 2024.
