Carlos Prates is aiming high after his win over Neil Magny.
Prates faced Magny on Saturday in the first main event of UFC Vegas 100 (also known as UFC Fight Night 247) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. “The Nightmare” put the veteran to work quickly, forcing him out with a glance to his left hand at the 4:50 mark of the opening frame.
Preetz then invited Jacques Della Maddalena to fight at UFC 312 on February 8th at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. While Australia is Maddalena’s home turf, Prates also loves the country as her daughter lives there. If that matchup doesn’t happen yet, the Brazilian has his eyes set on another gatekeeper, Geoff Neal.
“Of course I want to fight Jacques Della Maddalena,” Preetz said on ESPN’s post-fight show. “But then I heard things like the UFC wants to fight Kamaru Usman. But then I also heard that Kamaru Usman was going to fight Shavkat. [Rakhmonov]. So I don’t know, but if he fights Shafqat, he probably won’t fight in February. So here I am, if Jack Maddalena agrees, I would be really happy to come to Australia. A Brazilian man comes to the enemy’s camp and fights there. Because my daughter also lives there. And I really like that country…I also think another good option would be Jeff Neal. ”
Preetz’s run in the UFC, including winning Dana White’s Contender Series last year, has been nothing short of impressive. Dana White likened Prates to a young Anderson Silva when handing over his contract, and “The Nightmare” has lived up to expectations so far. Prates has won four straight fights by knockout since making his UFC debut in February of this year, returning with a $50,000 bonus each time.
Maddalena, on the other hand, is unbeaten in 17 fights, including seven in the UFC, after dropping his first two professional bouts. The 28-year-old is fresh off a come-from-behind knockout victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 299 in March of this year.
