Canada’s Charles Jourdain moved down to bantamweight at UFC Edmonton on Saturday, facing Victor Henry in his debut in the division.
Jordan was looking to erase a two-fight skid after dropping back-to-back bouts at 145 pounds against Sean Woodson and Jean Silva. Conversely, Henry is 2-0 with no contests in his past three trips to the UFC Octagon.
Round 1 began and both fighters were content to stay in kicking range for the first minute. While Henry favored leg and body kicks, Jordan was feinting with question mark kicks and trying to connect to the head. Jordan trips Henry and hits a knee to his head, using a headlock that Henry grabs as he stands up. Henry took it to the ground with a catch kick, but Jordan continued to be active from his back and landed a nice elbow as he stood up. The Quebec native did a great job of capitalizing on Henry’s forward pressure by countering with a flying knee. The round ended on the ground after Henry used another trip to take Jordan down.
The second round began with both fighters looking to apply pressure right away. Jordan used his lead hook to avoid Henry’s pressure and never allowed him to stay with his back to the fence for too long. Henry trips Jordan and immediately takes the back. He locked in a body triangle and continued to attack the neck, but Jordain did a great job defending and trying to break that lock. “Eyre” eventually managed to get out of this bad position, but chose to continue grappling while threatening him with a guillotine. After several attempts, he finally locks on the electric guillotine, forcing Henry to tap.
A great first performance from Canada’s Jourdain that shows he is a fun challenger at bantamweight.
Official results: Charles Jourdan defeats Victor Henry by submission (3:43, round 2)
