Charles Oliveira has denied claims made by Dan Hooker about a potential fight between the two at UFC 305.
Hooker (34-10) recently claimed he was gearing up to make his return at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia on August 17. Hooker was initially hesitant to reveal the name of his opponent but later hinted it could be Oliveira (23-12). Hooker clarified that he was “100 percent” ready to face Oliveira, but that “The Bronx Man” has not yet signed the contract.
“My body is 100 per cent,” Hooker told Main Event’s YouTube channel. “Everything’s fine. Training. Training hard. Training 100 per cent. In camp. Getting ready for Perth. I don’t know if I’m totally OK though. [who I’m fighting]Nothing has been officially announced, but of course I’m 100% in it. And the fight with ol’ Charlie Olives is a fight that I think fans on the other side of the world would want to see. But yeah, let’s see if he wins and signs the contract.”
However, Oliviera appears unaware of any potential clash with Hooker being planned.
“There are people booking fights for me without me knowing. A Metaverse match? Maybe.” When a fan said they wished the match rumors were true, Oliveira clarified that it wasn’t.
Charles Oliveira lost his title in a submission loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 in 2022. Oliveira then earned a title rematch with a knockout win over Beneil Dariush, but was forced to miss his bout with Makhachev at UFC 294 in October 2023 after suffering a severe cut during sparring 10 days before fight date. The Brazilian then lost a split decision in a title eliminator bout to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 in April.
Hooker, meanwhile, is riding a two-fight win streak after consecutive losses to Islam Makhachev and Arnold Allen. Hooker hasn’t competed since a hard-fought split decision win over Jalin Turner at UFC 290 in July 2023 due to a lingering arm injury.
