Early in Saturday’s UFC 310 prelims, veteran Clay Guida faced off against one of the UFC’s younger stars, Chase Hooper, in a lightweight bout.
Separated in age – Guida is 42 and Hooper is 25 – the two could not have been more different. “Carpenter” suffered two consecutive losses, but Hooper was in great form, winning his last three matches, including two consecutive submissions.
In a match that was widely expected to be fought primarily on the ground, Hooper decided to show how far his feet had come. With cleaner footwork, better combinations, he put it on Guida early and often.
However, grappling fans were not disappointed. The two grappled multiple times, with the taller Hooper getting the better of Guida in each exchange.
Although the pace was fast, it was not enough to slow down Hooper as he utilized his striking game to worry Guida’s hands and once the fight hit the ground, the younger boy took over.

Hooper sunk an armbar and panicked Guida, who was looking for a way out of the submission, but that was not to be. Hooper won two straight games and finished 2024 with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss.
