Audible was called regarding the originally announced UFC Edmonton co-main event.
Last week, the promotion revealed that a heavyweight showdown between Derrick Lewis and Alexander Romanov will serve as the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 246 on Nov. 2. Lewis and Romanov will still compete on the card, just with different opponents. Lewis will face Jonata Diniz in the new co-main event, while Romanov will face Rodrigo Nascimento. The new booking was first reported by Laerte Viana and later confirmed by MMAjunkie.com.
UFC Fight Night 246 will take place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada, and will feature a women’s flyweight bout between Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas as the main event.
Diniz is 2-0 inside the Octagon since earning a contract through Dana White’s Contender Series in September 2023. After knocking out Austin Lane in the second round in his promotional debut, the Brazilian defeated Carl Williams by unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 61 in his most recent bout on Aug. 10.
Lewis, the UFC’s all-time leader in knockouts with 15, has won two of his last three promotional bouts. Most recently, “The Black Beast” Lewis defeated Nascimento by TKO in the third round in the main event of UFC on ESPN 56 on May 11.
Romanov began his professional career with a 16-fight winning streak, including five straight at UFC. “King Kong” has struggled recently, losing three of his last four fights, most recently at UFC 302, where he was submitted in the first round by Jairton Almeida.
Prior to his loss to Ruiz, Nascimento had won three straight bouts at UFC. Since joining the organization in 2020, the Brazilian is 4-2 with one no-contest.
