Conor McGregor continues to take legal hits.
The former UFC two-division champion is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at Miami’s Caseya Center during a game during the 2023 NBA Finals, Front Office Sports reports. The civil suit was filed Tuesday in Florida federal court. By a woman who calls herself “Jane Doe.” The Miami Heat, which organized the game, and Basketball Properties LLC, which operates the venue, are also named as defendants in the lawsuit against McGregor, alleging excessive supervision.
Prosecutors say there is “insufficient evidence” and “no contradictory or corroborating witnesses” to prove McGregor, a Dublin native, raped a woman in a bathroom during an NBA Finals game against the Heat. As a result, no criminal charges were filed in this case. and against the Denver Nuggets on June 9, 2023.
The alleged victim is identified as a 49-year-old woman from Miami-Dade County, Florida, who is “employed as a Wall Street senior vice president at a prominent financial institution.” She is suing McGregor for “past and future medical treatment, compensatory damages and costs, and any other further relief that the court deems reasonable.”
In the lawsuit, Jane Doe alleges that she was taken into the men’s room, where McGregor tried to force her to perform both oral and anal sex. The lawsuit also alleges that venue employees continued to serve alcohol to McGregor after McGregor injured the Miami Heat mascot during an in-game skit, and that McGregor himself was not allowed to serve alcohol. He also claims that he did.
McGregor’s lawyer, Barbara Llanes, issued a statement expressing confidence that the lawsuit will be dismissed.
“After a thorough investigation at the time, the state attorney concluded there was no case to pursue,” Llanes said. “After almost two years and at least three attorneys, the plaintiffs have come forward with a new false story. We are confident that this case will also be dismissed.”
The lawsuit follows one in which McGregor was found civilly liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel room in 2018. McGregor insists the encounter was consensual and has vowed to appeal the verdict, but a number of his sponsors have already distanced themselves from the fighter following the verdict.
